Best Places for the Best Hikes Near Santa Ana

San Juan Loop Trail

The San Juan Loop Trail is a bit of a drive away (about an hour, depending on traffic), but it’s completely worth it. It is a pretty easy 2.5-mile hike that will take you about an hour and a half. There are seasonal waterfalls, a great view of the basin below, and a beautiful old-growth oak forest. If you want more of a challenge, you can branch off onto Chiquito Trail and follow San Juan Creek to Ortega Falls. Hop on I-5 S and CA-74/Ortega Hwy to Riverside County. That will take you to the Trail Head Parking Lot in Lake Elsinore . 

Peters Canyon

This popular trail is one of the best hikes near the Santa Ana area and is just 20 minutes away from us. It’s 5.9 miles long with a 623 ft. elevation gain. While there are beautiful views, there is not a lot of shade, so be sure to wear sun protection and bring enough water. The trail is open for dogs, horses, and mountain bikes, so it’s a fun time! Just follow I-5 S and Tustin Ranch Road to Pioneer Way in Tustin. That will lead to Peters Canyon Road and the trail head.

Quail Hill Trail

Quail Hill Trail is an easy two-mile hike with a total ascent of 164 feet. It’s a great one for families, with bathrooms, displays, and places to view wildlife. Keep an eye out for roadrunners and quail! The trail is dirt packed, so you can use a jogging stroller if needed. Head onto I-405 N and take exit 3 onto Sand Canyon Avenue. Get on Shady Canyon Drive, and you’re there!
